City Council member Dan O’Brien has officially ended his campaign for re-election with an announcement on social media yesterday, June 4, 2026.
O’Brien stated “I always tried to serve Culver City in a fair, responsive, and thoughtful way, building bridges where possible and making myself available to anyone who wanted to be heard.”
O’Brien launched his re-election effort in April, but has now offered his acceptance that serving as both a council member and President of the Culver City Chamber of Commerce was perceived as an obstacle by the public.
“Although there was precedent for serving in both roles, it has become clear that I cannot effectively do both at the level our community deserves. Because my role with the Chamber is now my full-time profession, and because I believe I can continue making a positive impact there, I have made the difficult decision to rescind my candidacy and will not seek re-election to the City Council in 2026.”
O’Brien also stated that he would be remaining in his seat until his term ends in December of this year.
