The Future of History @ Wende – What Will the AI Effect Be?

History has always been a record of what stories we choose to keep, and how we choose to tell them. But what happens when those choices are handed to a machine?

Next Wednesday evening, June 10, in the second installment of The Future of History, a group of distinguished scholars take up the questions that A.I. is forcing all of us to confront: What will history look like in the age of A.I.? Who decides what’s true? Whose memory survives, and whose is lost?

Moderated by historian David N. Myers, the panel brings together a rare mix of minds: labor historian Toby Higbie, who builds digital archives that turn historical records into research tools; computer scientist Saadia Gabriel, who studies misinformation and how to build more responsible A.I.; information scholar Cindy Anh Nguyen, who studies libraries as sites of both control and critique; and Todd Presner, whose work examines how A.I. is reshaping Holocaust memory.
