Culver City Police Department, in honor of National Police Day designated by the President of the United States, National Police Week (5/9-5/15) honors officers throughout the country who have fallen in the line of duty.
A contingent of officers from the Culver City Police Department will be flying to Washington D.C. to participate in the memorial ceremony recognizing the 116 officer who died in the line of duty in 2009. Culver City’s Lt. Curt Massey is one of the officers being recognized. He was killed on January 28, 2009 in a head on collision with a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on the 10 Freeway.
Lt. Massey’s name will be inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument, adding his name to the other 18,983 that are already there. There will be a candlelight vigil and a memorial ceremony commemorating each officer who was killed in 2009.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument was dedicated in October 1991.
