No Limits for Deaf Children Receives 30th Anniversary Honors

No Limits for Deaf Children was honored at the April 13, 2026 Culver City Council meeting on their 30th anniversary, serving deaf children and families.

The commendation was read by Council member Dan O’Brien, applauding the organizations commitments to help deaf and hard of hearing children “to succeed in school and in life…a pioneering organization, offering after school support for deaf children and their families.”

Dr. Michelle Christie, the founder of No Limits,  was there to accept the honors but gave the microphone almost immediately to Jacob, one of their students, so that he could articulate what the program meant to him. Jacob, who spoke with ease and confidence to the crowd in the chambers, said that he is “…sixteen, and I’ve been with No Limits since I was three years old. They helped me with my speech, my vocabulary…it’s pretty hard work, but I love it there.” He also praised the theater program as a great part of the work that No Limits does.

No Limits was founded in 1996 by Michelle Christie, Ed.D. Recognizing the lack of opportunities for children with a hearing loss to improve their speaking abilities in a fun and non-academic setting, she designed an after-school theater program to help develop communication skills, expand vocabulary and grammar, and understand character development.

Through role-playing, cultivating creativity, and developing public speaking skills, No Limits children began to confidently move into the hearing world.

In 2002, the No Limits Educational Center opened in Culver City. The Center provides services for low-income school-age deaf children and their families. Services include individual therapy, academic tutoring, literacy, STEM, arts enrichment, parent education, audiological services, and a Leadership and Mentoring Academy for teens.

No Limits will also be hosting a No Limits Poker Tournament anniversary fundraiser on June 27, 2026. For information on tickets, go to Pokerwithnolimits.com
