The next City Council meeting on February 9, 2026 has already put two public hearings on the agenda; an “appeal of [the] mixed use project at 5757 Uplander Way, and an “appeal of [the] proposed 147 -room Hotel at 11469 Jefferson Boulevard.”
The Uplander project is one of five developments currently in the pipeline for Fox Hills, and is being appealed by Supporters Alliance of Environmental Responsibility (SAFER.) While the Planning Commission has already approved a Site Plan for the development, this hearing is, according to a notice from the city, being offered to garner further public input to be taken into consideration.
SAFER, a Covina-based non-profit organization, has appealed projects in many cities, including Beverly Hills and Pasadena. The actual intent of the appeal is not apparent, but the presentation at the council meeting could be revealing.
The Uplander project has been given a green light by the Planning Commission, looking to create 1,077 residential units and 5,772 square feet of commercial space, at 5757 Uplander Way. They have also been granted “extended construction hours,” intended to speed the completion of the build.
The hotel on Jefferson, which was originally approved in 2021, is incorporating changes to their previously approved design. The project is now opting to both decrease the number of rooms and remove the plan for a rooftop bar. It was originally approved by the city as a five-story building featuring 175 guest rooms above restaurant space, and a 138-car subterranean parking garage.
A new plan, now put forth by the development firm Greens, drops the number of guest rooms to 147, and still includes a restaurant, a coffee shop, a fitness center, and parking for 106 vehicles.
It is being appealed by Unite Here Local 11, a hospitality workers union, which could be looking to add a requirement for union labor to the developer’s approval.
The complete agenda for the council meeting is not yet published, but will be available before the date.
