In a court case filed by the Ballona Wetlands Land Trust against the California Dept. of Fish and Game, L.A. Superior Court Judge Curtis Kin has found in favor of the defendant; the Little League playing field adjacent to the bike path will remain available for teams to play.
Located at 13120 Culver Boulevard, the field has been in use by the local Little League for decades. The court decided against the effort to evict the Culver-Marina Little League, in addition to the parking facility on Fiji Way used by the L.A. County Sheriff from parcels they have occupied for over 40 years.
Arguments for eliminating the facilities in favor of protecting and expanding the wetlands were dismissed.
After initially finding in 2025 that BLT’s lawsuit was meritless, Judge Kin gave the group two additional chances to amend their complaint, but was not convinced by their subsequent efforts.
The court dismissed the lawsuit in April.
The CDFW, whose manages the state’s ecological reserves, recommended in 2024 that continued use of the long-occupied parcels for Little League baseball and sheriff parking was not inappropriate, even though the land had been designated as an ecological reserve in 2005.
