The Cold War Roots of the Iran War – Wende Museum

Next Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 6 p.m., The Wende Museum will be presenting a timely program on the Cold War roots of contemporary U.S. foreign policy.

Tickets for this program are moving fast and it is expected to reach capacity.

How did Cold War interventions shape the way power is projected today? Drawing on decades of research, historian Ibrahim al-Marashi traces the development of American “hybrid warfare,” including the 1953 coup in Iran and the 1954 overthrow of Jacobo Árbenz in Guatemala.

This approach continues to evolve, updated for a world of sanctions, proxies, and information warfare.

The talk also follows the long arc of U.S.–Iran relations, from the overthrow of Mosaddegh to the 1979 revolution to the current conflict.

A complimentary reception in the garden follows. RSVP here.
