Another Phishing Scam Targets CCUSD Families

CCUSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Lucas sent an message to families in the District, calling attention to a ‘phishing’ scam.

Lucas noted that “These emails may falsely claim to represent District IT and request credential updates for various accounts. The District’s IT team acted swiftly to identify and address this issue, temporarily shutting down email access to scrub inboxes and remove malicious messages. This proactive measure helped to ensure the safety of our systems, and email services were restored within a few hours with minimal disruption.”

Key reminders to keep your information safe:

Scrutinize sender information: Ensure emails claiming to be from the District come from official email addresses. Be wary of minor misspellings or alterations.
Do not click on suspicious links: Hover over links to preview the URL before clicking. If it looks unfamiliar or suspicious, do not proceed.
Avoid downloading unknown attachments: Phishing emails often include attachments that contain malicious software.
The District will never request payments via CashApp or similar platforms: If you receive a request like this, report it immediately.

If you suspect an email may be part of this phishing campaign, do not respond or engage with it. Instead, forward the email to [email protected] for review.
