The Culver City Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a family dog as it was being walked through a marked crosswalk.
On August 14, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Culver City Police officers responded to the area of Higuera Street and Lucerne Avenue regarding a hit-and-run traffic collision involving a vehicle and a dog.
The investigation determined that a pedestrian was walking their family dog through the marked crosswalk at Higuera Street and Lucerne Avenue when a silver/gray SUV made a left turn onto westbound Lucerne Avenue and struck the dog. The pedestrian was not struck or injured.
The driver paused briefly before continuing westbound on Lucerne Avenue. Despite efforts, the dog was confirmed deceased at the scene.
CCPD officers immediately began investigating the collision and located nearby surveillance footage that captured the incident. Through collaborative efforts with community members, additional video evidence, and investigative follow-up, officers were able to identify the vehicle involved and ultimately identify the suspected driver.
Detectives contacted the suspect, and on the evening of August 19, 2026, the suspect, a male adult resident of Los Angeles, surrendered at the Culver City Police Department and was arrested for hit-and-run.
