Arcana, Ripped Bodice Make “Best Bookstore” List

arcana400x290The inevitable end of year sum-up ‘best of’ lists are all over the internet, and Culver City scores on Los Angles Magazine’s listicle of the “14 Best Mom-and Pop Bookstores in LA.” If you are a bibliophile, there’s nothing quite as fun as cruising the stacks, finding the unexpected or unknown treasure; that book that might just change it all.

From Los Angeles Magazine ” If it’s specialty arts books you’re after, Arcana is the place to be (the the New York Times described it as “the go-to purveyor in Los Angeles for rare and out-of-print books on art, photography, architecture, design, fashion and music,” and we can’t really argue with that). Though the store has been around since 1984, it only recently moved into its bright, airy digs in the Helms Bakery Complex; it’s an architectural aesthetic that matches the store’s inventory.  8675 Washington Blvd., Culver City, 310-458-1499

Earlier this year, sisters Bea and Leah Koch opened the first-ever romance-only bookstore right in Culver City (they call img_5482-700x525themselves “purveyors of fine smut.”) Thanks to a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, the quaint shop is open to anyone seeking romance and all of its subgenres (Suspense, Western Historical, YA, and even cookbooks). > 3806 Main St., Culver City, 424-603-4776″

While Arcana does keep it’s focus on art and architecture, The Ripped Bodice will be happy to order any book you want. Jeff Bezos does not need any more of your money, and you will enjoy reading that much more when you get to talk to other readers. New year’s resolution? Buy more books IRL.
