Spelling Champ A-D-V-A-N-C-E-S to State Bee

2013-02-Maleman-344Cooper Komatsu, a Culver City Middle School student who has won two consecutive CCUSD Spelling Bees, has qualified to represent Culver City Middle School and participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.

The state bee will be held on Friday, April 4 at California State University, Fresno. The winner of the state bee will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 19-21 at the National Geographic Society Headquarters in Washington D.C.

  1. Cooper is an awesome speller, but this time the competition he’s advancing in isn’t a spelling bee. It’s the National Geographic Geography Bee.

    He is this year’s CCUSD spelling champ, but still needs to compete in the LA County Spelling Bee on March 26 to see which two top spellers will move on to the statewide spelling bee in May. Stay tuned…

  2. Sara – thanks for the clarification – I took this from another source, and did not think to fact-check the info – Cheers to Cooper on all fronts, and may he succeed in geography and spelling (he’d probably make a great fact-checker too… Maybe he’s available as an intern?)
