Sony Pictures Entertainment recently hosted a Poetry Rainbow Contest in collaboration with CCUSD. All fifth-grade students throughout the District were invited to submit a poem in conjunction with the unveiling of the studio’s rainbow art project that celebrates Sony and MGM’s history and the “Wizard of Oz.”
Culver City residents are now able to see and enjoy a beautiful 90-foot rainbow over the studio lot. Jezebel McCarthy, a fifth-grade student at Farragut Elementary, wrote the winning poem. Jezebel was honored at a ceremony on October 1 that celebrated the unveiling of the “Rainbow.” Her teacher, Stephanie Manglinong, was also in attendance along with Jezebel’s parents.
Jezebel’s poem follows:
Someone Paints Colors in the Sky
By Jezebel McCarthy
Someone painted colors in the sky
Water colors from rain
Higher than any kite flies
Sun-dried and stretched many feet
Nobody knows where someone
And the ends meet
Some believe beyond the colors
You’ll find dreams
A sight that will make your eye gleam
These colors I speak of
That shine and glow
Are the wonderful parts to a rainbow.
