Sierra Club Endorses Sahli-Wells

The Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Meghan Sahli-Wells in Culver City’s city council election.

“We are very pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Meghan Sahli-Wells for the upcoming Culver City city council race,” said Howard Strauss, chair, Los Angeles County Political Committee. “We are confident that she will continue work to protect Culver City’s environment, for our families and for our future.”

Sahli-Wells serves as a member of Culver City’s Advisory Committee on Redevelopment, she’s the Vice-Chair of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and is an active member of many local environmental groups. She is committed to upgrading Culver City’s conservation plan, which has not been updated since 1973. Her priorities are advocating for cost-effective sustainability practices, adopting energy-saving green building standards, installing solar panels on public buildings, encouraging environmentally responsible practices in new buildings and developments, boosting water conservation efforts through incentives and education, using water-wise landscaping on public property, preserving open space and enhancing City parks.

“We are deeply grateful to Ms. Sahli-Wells for having warned the City Council and the School Board about lead-tainted soil at the site of a planned development adjacent to three schools, and having made sure the City would thoroughly monitor soil excavation at the site,” said Strauss. “She is a true environmental champion who will lead the fight to protect Culver City’s clean air, clean water and special places.”

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Sahli-Wells’ campaign.
“We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Ms. Sahli-Wells is elected,” concluded Strauss. “Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about her exemplary environmental record. We look forward to a victory party for the environment on election night and to many more years of Ms. Sahli-Wells fighting for the environment as a city councilperson for Culver City.
