This Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2026, the Wende will bring a suppressed counterculture back into view with a rare open house of materials from our Soviet Hippie Collection. Visitors can explore original art, music, and fashion produced by Soviet hippies. The materials show how these non-conformists carved out small zones of freedom inside an authoritarian system. In the A-Frame Theater, Terje Toomistu’s documentary Soviet Hippies (2017) will screen throughout the afternoon, adding context.
Guests are also invited to take part in simple, hands-on craft activities inspired by Soviet hippie art and fashion.
