Walk ‘n Rollers. a Culver-City based non-profit organization empowering families to rethink their commutes to school by choosing to walk, bike, carpool and use transit more often, announce this year’s Golden Sneak Awardee, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove.
Each year, Walk ‘n Rollers awards a local mobility champion the Golden Sneaker Award for their efforts in creating safer, healthier communities by supporting sustainability and mobility efforts. Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove has worked for nearly a decade to improve mobility, create open space and provide equitable options in the 37th Assembly District of California.
“Every family deserves safe, reliable, and accessible transportation options,” said Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove. “For the past decade, I have fought to invest in alternatives to cars because I’ve seen firsthand how they strengthen public safety, improve public health, and build more connected communities. I am deeply honored to receive this year’s Golden Sneaker Award in recognition of this work, and I remain committed to further championing policies that advance mobility across Los Angeles.”
Kamlager-Dove has secured over $30 million to improve mobility and open space concerns in her district, including funding to help disadvantaged communities in Los Angeles tackle environmental and climate justice challenges and transportation improvements in Culver City. Walk ‘n Rollers is thrilled to honor the Congresswoman with this prestigious award.
Previous Golden Sneaker award winners have included, former Mayor of Culver City Meghan Sahli-Wells; Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell; CicLAvia co-founder and current C.A.R.S. president Aaron Paley; Chair of Los Angeles Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Los Angeles Walks Board Member Deborah Murphy, Baldwin Hills Conservancy President David McNeil, Biking While Black founder Yolanda Davis Overstreet.
The Walk ‘n Roll Festival is a family-oriented outdoor event beginning at 11 A.M. on March 14 at the Jesse Brewer Jr. Park in Los Angeles. Admission is free and celebrates Walk ‘n Rollers 14th Anniversary and their efforts to create safer healthier communities.
