Los Angeles County Registrar is still dropping more ballots every day, so it’s too early to say it’s over, but the winners seem clear. Incumbent Albert Vera, Jr. is the top vote-getter with 8,802 votes, or 20.46%. Next in place is Yasmine-Imani McMorrin, also an incumbent, with 7,430 votes, or 17.26%.
Finishing in the crucial third spot is Bryan “Bubba” Fish, with 6,904 votes, or 16.05% of the vote. While Jeannine Wisnosky – Stehlin, at 6739 votes, or 15.66%, is only 165 votes behind, every ballot drop since Election Day has increased Fish’s lead.
Historically, when the distance between two local candidates is less than 50 votes, there can be a ‘flip’ – some contests have memorably flipped more than once – but when it’s more than 100 votes, the lead stays in the lead.
In the past, conservative voices have voted earlier and liberal voter weigh in later, often on Election Day.
Anecdotal evidence has offered that the tremendous amount of mailers focused against Fish helped his campaign by offering him a great deal of name recognition, which then drew voters to do their own research on his positions.
Measure O, the re-set on the parcel tax for CCUSD, passed effortlessly with more than 82.52% of the vote, 13,405 votes in support.
