Commit to finishing the Screenland 5K in good health and fitness on March 2, 2025. Individuals of all walking and running abilities and experiences can prepare for the Oscar Sunday race in free training, starting Sunday, Nov. 10, 3:00-4:00 pm, at Culver City High School track.
Sessions will cover goal setting, stretching, warm-ups, light running, jogging, and warm-downs, said coach David Winslow, a legacy Screenland 5K champion who has completed 42 marathons.
Ideal for first-time or “it’s been a while” runners, the Sofa to Screenland 5K workouts will prepare participants for every step of their 3.1-mile adventure into glitz, glamour, glory, and gold on race day.
“Wear comfortable training clothes, good running shoes, and stay hydrated,” said 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist LaShinda Demus, who coaches the Culver City High School track team.
“The program will work backward from race day. Everyone will have achievable goals to hit for each timeline or workout,” said Demus, a two-time Olympian and world champion hurdler.
No registration is required. Enter at the Harter Ave. gate. Additional sessions will be held Nov. 24, Dec. 8, 22, Jan. 12, 26, and Feb. 9, 23.
“Our sessions promote fun, family, and fitness, which develops camaraderie and great health,” said Winslow. “We’re not here to set world records.”
Midwest Roofing sponsors the training sessions.
