Fighting for Incarcerated Women: Wende Museum Q &A with Burton on Criminal Justice Reform

The Wende Museum will host Susan Burton, leader in the criminal justice reform movement, author of the award-winning memoir Becoming Ms. Burton, and founder of A New Way of Life Reentry Project (ANWOL). In conjunction with the Wende Museum’s exhibition of work by incarcerated artists, Visions of Transcendence: Creating Space in East and West, Burton will be interviewed by Wende Museum Chief Curator and Director of Programming Joes Segal.

After cycling in and out of prison for two decades, Susan Burton founded A New Way of Life Reentry Project for incarcerated women in California. Since 1998, the Ford grantee has provided housing to more than 1,100 formerly incarcerated women, reunited 300+ mothers with their children, and provided pro bono legal services to 3,000+ people with conviction histories.

The interview will conclude with an audience Q&A session, followed by a light reception.
