Dear Editor – “Fix California” Claps Back

Dear Editor,

I am Nick Meade, Executive Director for Fix California, and I noticed you published the article “Scam Alert – There is Nothing Wrong with Your Voter Registration” on our organization yesterday, July 29, 2024.

I would like to go on the record regarding three specific inaccurate details in the article that would provide clarification to your subscribers and readers.

“If you get a text or an email from ‘Fix California’ don’t answer. It’s a Republican ‘voter integrity’ scam to ‘secure our elections.’”
Fix California is not a “vigilante voter-registration scam” designed to disenfranchise voters. We are a legitimate 501(c)(4) nonprofit registered in the State of California that increases voter participation throughout the state by holding county Registrars of Voters accountable for maintaining clean voter rolls and increasing registered voters.

“While the scam tells you there’s a problem with your voter registration and sends you to an actual government site, getting you to re-register may allow them to tag you as a double ballot, creating a problem where there was none, and invalidating your vote.
Fix California does not target currently registered voters. Rather, we digitally engage our database of nonregistered voters in California and direct them to the official CASOS website to register as voters in the state. Since we are contacting unregistered voters, the individual CANNOT be tagged a “double ballot” registrant.

“How Culver City landed on the list of ‘poorly maintained voter rolls’ is an unanswered question, and what standard is being considered for ‘poorly maintained’ is also not defined anywhere in their public facing information.”
Your cited California Globe source from 2021 does not specify Culver City by name; instead, it focuses on counties. To this point, last year, Los Angeles County, where Culver City resides, lost a historic lawsuit against Judicial Watch and was ordered to remove 1,207,613 ineligible voters from their rolls in a settlement agreement. Clearly, the standard you seek was upheld in a federal lawsuit and reflects on the entire county. You can read more regarding the lawsuit settlement and “poorly maintained voter rolls” of Los Angeles County here.

I’m requesting an Expression of Concern to correct the aforementioned inaccuracies regarding the article with proper information on Fix California.

In the future, I’d appreciate you reaching out to me directly to clarify your questions or concerns before publishing an article on our organization.

Best,
Nick Meade, Executive Director
