Summer Concert Series will feature Ricardo Lemvo & Makina Loca, DJ Canyon Cody doing Afro Cuban and Subsuelo DJ music this coming Thursday on August 24. The show is free in the Town Plaza, from 7 to 9 pm.
Ricardo Levmo is a Congolese singer of Angolan descent, and his music is a blend of African soukous, kizomba, samba and Cuban salsa. Lemvo is the embodiment of the Afro-Latin Diaspora which connects back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave rhythm. From the Montana Folk Festival, “He is truly multicultural and equally at home singing in Spanish, Portuguese, Kimbundu, Turkish, Lingala, and Kikongo. Since forming his Los Angeles-based band Makina Loca in 1990, Lemvo has refined his craft and vision, raising his joyous voice with strength, singing songs that celebrate life, and most importantly, inspiring his audiences to let loose and dance away their worries.”
DJ Canyon Cody, according to Remezcla, is a “multi-hyphenate known for a lot of things: DJ, producer, party-thrower, and A&R – but perhaps he’s most recognized for his dance party Subsuelo. Subsuelo started as a house party, but it quickly evolved into a sound – the sound of bicultural Angelenos.”
