CCHS Booster Moves into the School Year with Support and Strength

The corona virus has slowed down the nation, but not the Culver City High School Booster Club. The organization, which financially supports the teams and clubs of Culver City High with items like video analysis software and trainers, has a new board of directors and it is actively seeking donations and memberships.
Dave Stewart, President of the Booster Club, has taken the reigns of the organization during a challenging moment in time. Culver City High students are currently receiving instruction online and are not allowed on campus. Three seasons of sports have been condensed into two seasons, hopefully starting in December. “Like most organizations, we’re adjusting to this new normal. We are revamping our online presence and will be holding our monthly meetings, which are open to everyone, via Zoom. We want as many parents and community members involved as possible,” Stewart remarked.

This past spring, the organization’s primary fundraiser was cancelled due to Covid-19. Scott Zeidman, past President and current Treasurer, commented, “Not being able to hold Casino Night in April was unfortunate for the Centaur teams we support. Hopefully, the public health situation improves and we will host the biggest and best Casino Night ever this spring.”

All of this happens during a year in which the Centaurs are moving from the Ocean League to the highly competitive Bay League. Athletic Director Tom Salter commented, “We will now be competing against the likes of Mira Costa High and Redondo Union. Those schools are well funded and have excellent facilities. We need the support of our Booster Club to help level the playing field.” Salter added, “The Booster Club recently received a $10,000 donation from the Smidt Family Foundation. The state and our district can only fund so much. We are tremendously grateful to private donors like the Smidt Family for their support.”

The Booster Club meets the third Monday of every month at 7:00 PM. Meetings, typically held in the CCHS library, will be held via Zoom until in person meetings are permitted. See the CCHS website and cchsboosterclub.com for details.

Memberships can be obtained via the Booster Club website at the following link: https://cchsboosterclub.wpcomstaging.com/about-cchs-booster-club/ . Membership forms can also be obtained via email from Dave Stewart at [email protected] or Membership Chair, Sara Jensen, at [email protected].
