Not all superheroes are on the big screen.
Yesterday, Victoria Alonso, executive producer and president of production for Marvel Studios, made a special visit to La Ballona Elementary School to visit fourth-grader Debbie Flores.
Debbie is currently battling leukemia, and Alonso arrived to spread a little Marvel love to Debbie and her classmates. Alonso, who was born in Buenos Aires, spoke to the class in both Spanish and English and delivered a powerful message: she showed off her best Captain Marvel moves, put up her dukes and told Debbie to tell cancer to “Back off!”
Alonso served as an executive producer on a string of Marvel hits including Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp; and most recently, Captain Marvel.
She’s also an important voice in Hollywood as a producer, as a Latina and as a female senior executive. She was named to The Hollywood Reporter’s 2017 Women in Entertainment Power 100. Also in 2017, she was the first woman to be honored with the Visual Effects Society’s Visionary Award. Last year, she earned the Hollywood Professional Association’s Charles S. Swartz Award for her impact on the industry.
Clearly, she had an impact on Debbie and her La Ballona classmates as well!
