Spark of Love Toy Drive – The Culver City Fire Department is collecting toys at all three fire stations through December 24th in support of the Spark of Love Toy Drive. As part of the greater Southern California campaign, the Culver City Fire Department is collecting new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for under-served children and teens in and around Culver City. Feel free to donate toys and sports items at any of our three fire stations:

Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Training – On November 30th, the City conducted an advanced tabletop EOC exercise. Approximately 40 City employees attended this four-hour training to demonstrate their understanding of their EOC responsibilities / functions and practice EOC support operations. This important annual training helps to prepare City Staff to provide information, find and deliver essential resources, and make policy decisions in the event of a major emergency or disaster.
Culver City Fire Department-Hosted Training – Last month, the Culver City Fire Department hosted the California State Firefighters’ Association Burn Trailer. The Culver City Fire Department assisted in providing instruction to over 100 Los Angeles County area fire department explorers, reserves and new recruits. The training included situational awareness and fire attack as well as ventilation operations, firefighter survival, and forcible entry techniques.
Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department
Culver City Winter Wonderland Camp – Winter Wonderland Camp is fast approaching. Participants can enjoy a fun time with PRCS staff. Week one runs December 19th through the 23rd. The field trip for that week is Mulligans Family Fun Center and we have a luau planned for that Friday so pull out your Hawaiian shirts! Week two runs from December 26th through the 30th. That week, we are going to blast off into space at the California Science Center. Participants will party it up on Friday with our Pre-New Year’s Eve Party with karaoke. Camp costs $135 per week for Culver City residents and $166 per week for non-residents. For more information, contact the Recreation office at 310-253-6650.
Culver City After School Recreation Program (CCARP) – After school sites will be closed during the CCUSD winter break, December 19th through the 30th. Happy Holidays!
Veterans Memorial Complex Rental Operation – The Rental Office will be closed on Monday, December 26, 2016 and Monday, January 2, 2017; the Rental Office will be closed on Tuesday evenings and open on Wednesday evenings until 7:30 pm from now through January 2017.
Parks Division – After rain delays and the Thanksgiving holiday, the Syd Kronenthal Playground Project is back in progress, with the contractor back on the job and making progress. The old equipment was demolished and removed, and the old rubber surfacing excavated and removed. The new playground equipment is assembled in place, the footings are poured and the accessible ramp is about to be installed. The project is on track to be completed, inspected and reopened before the end of the year.
2016 Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program – The Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre presents “Snowed Under”, a contemporary dance performance at the Helms Bakery District on Saturday, December 10 at 7:00 pm. Police Explorer Graduation – On Saturday November 19th, Chief Bixby, Captain Iizuka and Sergeant Sukal attended the Police Explorer graduation ceremony at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Training Center Academy in Whittier. Matheus Dos Santos, Enrique Delgado, and Daniel Acevedo all attended the 18 week academy and successfully completed all aspects of the training that included: Academic Work, Physical Fitness Training, Defensive Tactics, Firearms Safety and Familiarization; and Drills. Congratulations to all of them for their accomplishments.
Public Works Department
Culver City meets Golden State Water’s Local Conservation Target – Golden State Water Company implemented water conservation standards to align with the emergency regulations the State Water Board set in May 2016. These new voluntary standards replaced the previous mandatory standards that were in place when drought conditions were more serious statewide. Golden State’s standards were developed based on supply and usage data and the assumption that the region would experience 3 additional years of drought. In July, Culver City was given a water consumption reduction target of 16% and by October, the City successfully met this goal. Residents and the community adhered to alternating lawn watering schedules and only watered before 8:00 am or after 7:00 pm. In addition, many residents have implemented water saving measures, such as drought tolerant landscaping and water conserving appliances, to help the City achieve its water conservation goals.
Slurry Seal and Striping Project to Take Place on Duquesne Avenue – The Public Works Engineering Division announces that due to the impending cooler temperatures, the slurry seal and striping project on Duquesne Avenue from Culver Boulevard to Lucerne Avenue will be postponed. The rubberized slurry seal the City plans to use for the project requires warmer pavement temperatures for successful application. Therefore, the project will be postponed to a date when the weather is warmer.

Effective December 9, 2016 Culver CityBus announces the following service change – The Rapid 6 Short Line service will be temporarily discontinued due to the UCLA winter break. The UCLA school session will end on Dec 9, 2016 and resume on Jan 9, 2017. The short line will not operate from Dec 12, 2016 – Jan 6, 2017.
