As you may know, there was an attempted bank robbery [yesterday] morning at the One West Bank Branch on Jefferson Boulevard. Two suspects were apprehended, and it is believed that two suspects are at-large.
CCPD immediately contacted us and placed El Rincon Elementary School on a modified lock down. As a precaution, El Marino Language School was also placed on a modified lock down.
El Marino was removed from lockdown prior to dismissal. El Rincon received an all clear after most students had been released to their parents.
I want to take this opportunity to commend the quick actions of our administrative team at both schools, and thank our parents, teachers and staff for following all of our protocols for a situation like this and for communicating with our parents.
In addition, I would like to thank the Culver City Police Department for working so closely with our schools to both share information and secure our campuses. Law enforcement determined the immediate areas of concern and worked closely with us throughout the day ensuring the safety of all of our students. El Rincon and El Marino parents and site administration were kept abreast of the information as it was released from CCPD. No other sites were affected and CCPD determined that school activities could proceed as scheduled.
This incident was another example of how Culver City comes together in a time of crisis. I am proud of our excellent relationship with CCPD and how our school teams worked so well together to keep our students safe and learning throughout the day. Success for ALL, really does take us ALL!
