Are you a graduating senior? Do you have a letter of acceptance from four year college or university? Are you female? There are just a few more requirements for the Beacon of Light Scholarship that can put money for college in your hands. Ava Onwu, the administrator of the scholarship for the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority said that “This money goes begging, year after year. We barely get any applicants, and as a non-profit, we can’t hold onto it. It’s give it away or give it back. We don’t want to give it back. Let’s help some women get to college.”
Up to $5000 to available to the young woman with a GPA of 3.0 or better, who is a resident of Los Angeles County, and can meet the requirements and fill out the application form available by emailing to [email protected].
SGR was stared in 1922, and has more than 77,000 members in over 500 chapters. The Culver City chapter, Theta Epsilon Sigma, dates to 1996 and continues to be successful with a focus on “Healthy Choices, Healthy Living, and Healthy Generations.” The Beacon of Light Foundation was created in 2007 to provide scholarship support to exceptional young women attending four year colleges or universities, fostering leadership and achievement.
