Culver City will be rockin’ July 13, 2013 and July 14, 2013 when the Culver City Rock and Mineral Club, Inc. presents the 52nd Annual Fiesta of Gems Show at the Culver City Veterans Memorial Auditorium. This year our featured gem is Aquamarine. It is great fun for the whole family and beneficial for the community.
The Fiesta of Gems is an annual event to introduce the community to minerals, gems, earth sciences, and the art of jewelry making. We offer jewelry making and lapidary demonstrations, jewelry making classes, and children’s programs. This event helps to support community programs which introduce, educate, challenge, and inspire elementary students (El Rincon School) in Earth Science activities and to provide donations to the Culver City Boy Scouts, Troop 113, and the Culver City Senior Center.
Our club is one of the most active rock clubs in Southern California and it is right in your own back yard – Culver City. These are just a few highlights from our members that have helped to make our club so unique.
A parallel thinking engineer became a well known creative jewelry designer, author, and teacher on the Westside.
One member cut open a nondescript piece of Coprolite (fossil dinosaur poop) to find an image of a Gypsy dancing girl.
A Cedars Sinai nurse changed his life by collecting beautiful mineral crystals.
Families have been thrilled to find samples of various rocks, gems, and minerals on our rock-hounding field trips.
The pleasure one receives when you cut into a mundane looking rock on the outside and find its beauty on the inside.
