Faith & Begorrah! (And we all know what that means…?) You won’t want to miss an evening of “Magical, Mystical, Marvelous Mayhem!” featuring the acclaimed Off the Wall Improv Group on Saturday, March 16 when the Friends of the Culver City Youth Health Center honors Culver City High School principal Dylan Farris in fine Irish style. The Friends will salute Farris for his “… dedicated leadership in promoting a positive school climate for students and staff, improving school facilities and creating outstanding programs.” Now you can imagine where the Off the Wall Improve Group might take all this, but the results are sure to be hilarious (especially with audience participation). The event takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 6161 Centinela Ave. beginning with a Silent Auction at 5:30 p.m, dinner and 7:00 p.m., then the raucous Off the Wall group and a Live Auction, interspersed with music by Ronnie Jayne. (From now until March 12 you can visit their Online Auction site to see more goodies at www.biddingforgood.com/CCYHC). RSVP by March 8 for tickets at $85.00 each ($95.00 at the door) by calling Andy at (310) 837-5012 or Sue (310) 559-5681.
From local musician “Sonny B.” (he does both the drumming and booking for his groups) comes word that his “Hound Dog Dave and the Mel-tones” — American Roots and Blues Quartet will be playing at the nearby Bar Melody this Wednesday, March 6 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Melody’s located at 9132 So. Sepulveda Blvd., across from the In & Out Burger.
The Culver City Chamber of Commerce’s popular “Young Professionals” networking group is back and will be meeting at Kay ‘n Dave’s on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. They’ll be enjoying plenty of munchies, margaritas, Coronas, Dos Equis, or whatever else might strike their fancy at the bar. The cost is $15.00 with prepaid registration; $20.00 at the door, and includes appetizers (the bar is no-host), but you must RSVP by 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. Kay ‘n Dave’s is located at 9341 Culver Blvd, Culver City. (If you have to ask the age range to be considered a “Young Professional” you probably don’t qualify…)
Lots of decisions to be made at the March meeting of the Culver City Garden Club, set for this Tuesday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Star Education, 10117 Jefferson Blvd (between Raintree and Duquesne). In addition to the program, “Plants, New & Not-so-New, That Work Well in Our Region,” presented by Nicholas Staddon, Monrovia Growers, they will be discussing Star Earth Day participation as well as in Fiesta LaBallona and potential sites and volunteers for their Annual Show. Members are invited to send their thoughts, comments and suggestions to club president Deni Friese at [email protected].
Celebrating another great year of participation in the YMCA’s Model Legislature & Court Program (otherwise known as Youth & Government) is the 105-member Culver-Palms delegation – plus, it’s another year in which they achieved “Premier Delegation” status! Friends and family are invited to join the participants at the Annual Delegation Banquet, complete with lunch, officer/advisor recognition, special awards, finding out the incoming officer team will be, and watching their culminating slideshow of the year. There will also be performances by the CPY Band, made up of their very own, and very talented, kids. This all takes place next Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Double Tree by Hilton, 6161 W. Centinela Ave. The cost is $15.00 per delegate, $30.00 per family member, and discounted parking will be $6.00. Reservations along with payment must be received by the Y, 4500 So. Sepulveda Blvd. by Thursday, March 7 (prices will be higher at the door). Call Katie Laase at (310) 390-3604 x7525 for more information.
