This past September, Culver City Middle School teacher, Kari Fretham, was one of only 16 teachers named as a Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year out of 71 finalists.
This is not the first recognition Fretham has received for her exceptional work as a teacher. Just last school year she was named Sony Pictures Entertainment Teacher of the Year and honored at CCEF’s Tribute to the Stars. In 2011, A BRAVO Award from the Music Center recognized her commitment to incorporating both visual and performing arts into her language arts classes.
The 16 Los Angeles County Teachers of the Year and winners from counties across the state now advance to the statewide competition for California Teacher of the Year.
But no matter what the outcome of the statewide competition, Kari Fretham has already achieved the greatest honor teachers can receive. It is an honor known to all great teachers- the honor of having students carry that teacher forever in their hearts. She has not just been a Teacher of the Year for them, but a Teacher for a Lifetime- a teacher who has gotten them to think and grow in new ways, a teacher who has touched and changed their lives.
