Sudbury & Ramos Lead an Artistic Journey through World Music This Sunday – Elizabeth Coombs

Recording artists Jean Sudbury and Ruben Ramos will lead an artistic journey through the musical styles of the world this Sunday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. in Mar Vista. Sudbury & Ramos are the opening act in the 17th Annual Friends of Music Concert Series, a community service of St. Bede’s Episcopal Church.
Sudbury, on violin and mandolin, and Ramos, on guitar and bass, weave colorful, romantic connections between folk and flamenco, cowboy and classical, Latin American, French and Italian music on their new CD, Connexion Eclectique (Mountain Trail Records, 2011). Sunday evening, the duo will play original compositions from the CD, along with pieces from Dvorak and Smetana, at St. Bede’s on Grandview and Charnock, one of the Westside’s hidden acoustical gems.

Ramos is a Los Angeles native who has performed all over Southern California and the world. He has worked with musicians as diverse as The Ten Tenors of Australia, “new flamenco” artist Jim Stubblefield, jazz trombonist Luis Bonilla and rock singer and guitarist Eddie Money. Locally, he has performed at the Wiltern, the Hollywood Bowl and Alex Theater Glendale.

Sudbury performs regularly with stars of Western and acoustic Americana music, most recently completing a tour with the Red Hot Rhythm Rustlers. She has also been a featured soloist with the Utah Symphony, the Pacific Symphony and the American Ballet Theater Orchestra, in addition to performing on recordings for movies and television, including a tenure with the Lost TV Orchestra.

As a duo, Sudbury & Ramos have created a unique musical style, “The Connexion Eclectique,” that is at once traditional and passionately original. You can listen to some of their compositions at www.sudburyandramos.com and on pandora.com. Connexion Eclectique is downloadable from iTunes. CDs of the album are for sale on CDbaby.com.

All music fans are welcome to this Sunday’s concert. The suggested donation for Friends of Music concerts is $15. Light refreshments will be served after the show.

St. Bede’s is at 3590 Grand View Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066. Free parking is available in the church lot. For driving directions, please go to www.stbedesla.org.
