The question put to CCUSD Food Services Director Julie Garcia came back with the answer that parents were wanting to hear.
“The companies who supply our beef products have stated that they do not use or add Lean Finely Textured Beef [referred to in many media outlets as Pink Slime] nor do they use or introduce ammonium hydroxide as a processing agent. Written statements from both companies are on file in the Food Service office.”
The beef received from the United States Department of Agriculture (UDSA) through the Commodity Food Program is purchased by the USDA under their approved specifications.
It’s great that CCUSD is not using this food product- but if you want to make sure that NO ONE is eating this stuff, a petition is available and currently accepting signatures, to remove LFTB and ammonium hydroxide from processed beef products at: www.change.org/petition.
