Culver City Police Shoot and Kill Robbery Suspect

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detectives Monday were investigating the shooting death of a robbery suspect by a Culver City police officer.

The fatally wounded man, whose name was unavailable, was suspected of robbing a Radio Shack near Venice Boulevard and Motor Avenue. According to City News Service, a Culver City officer spotted a car matching the description of one used in the holdup in a parking lot in the 10400 block of Venice Boulevard,  and fatally shot the man at 12:15 p.m. Sunday when he apparently reached for a gun. A chrome gun was found in the car, said Deputy Jeff Gordon of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.

A woman who was in the car was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder, he said. Under state law, accomplices can be charged with murder if someone dies in the commission of a felony. Her name was also unavailable.

Sheriff’s detectives routinely oversee officer-involved shootings in smaller municipal police departments.

Despite multiple requests by Crossroads for information, Culver City Police have yet to comment on the incident.
