AVPA Hosts Frost Film Festival

The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (AVPA) is proud to welcome young filmmakers from around Los Angeles County to participate in the 12th Annual Frost Film Festival. The festival runs Friday and Saturday, January 22 and 23, from 7 pm to 10 pm in the Sony Black Box Theatre, Room 9 in Robert Frost Auditorium, 4401 Elenda Street, Culver City 90230. General Admission each night is $10 and $8 for ASB/Seniors/ Children/Faculty. Seating is very limited; we recommend that you purchase tickets prior to the screening. Tickets can be purchased online at avpa.org or in person weekdays during lunch at Culver City High School in Room 7.

The event is hosted by students in Culver City High School ‘s AVPA Film Department who are looking forward to screening films submitted from schools such as Santa Monica High School , Venice High School , Harvard-Westlake, West Torrance High School , Washington Prep, and Pacifica Christian, as well as their own short films.

Five AVPA student crews will premiere their fall films at the festival. The five films are: “Spock + Mouse,” “Soopergirl,” “Love is a Fallacy,” “Gua bam” and “Best Day/Worst Day.” These films are directed by Jeana Linstrot, Jade James, Duncan Ballantine, Justin Kelly and Ben Mullen respectively. These directors represent different voices within a wide-ranging program. The directors bring to their projects knowledge of many aspects of filmmaking after years of intense study. Capable crews of students from the film department assisted them, and they benefited from collaboration with other AVPA departments as well.

Join our award-winning filmmakers (Best High School Film, Big Bear International Film Festival, 2007, 2008 and 2009) for two evenings of creative student film screenings. This year, as always, the entries promise to be as diverse and exceptional as the students who created them. For more information, please call 310-842-4200 ext 3306.
