Cobalt Apartments Set to Loom Large Over DTCC

It’s not in Culver City, but it’s close enough to matter.  Cobalt, a new apartment building adjacent to Sony Pictures Studios, is nearing completion and almost ready to open doors. The northeast corner of Washington Boulevard and Overland Avenue, is technically in Los Angeles and considered to be part of the Palms neighborhood, but the shadow it casts falls on Culver City. The seven-story building featuring 135 studio, one and two-bedroom apartments atop 14,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 294 basement parking spaces, created by Greystar Real Estate Partners.  A total of 11 units are to be set aside as affordable housing.

VTBS Architects designed the building, using five levels of wood-frame construction above a concrete podium.

According to UrbanizeLA, Greystar is in the midst of construction on several other multifamily residential developments in the Los Angeles area, including projects in Marina del Rey, the Arts District, and North Hollywood. The Cobalt development is located a half-mile south of a similar development at Charnock Road and Overland Avenue, snd is a quarter of a mile away from the similarly scaled Bastion development at Washington and Motor Avenue.
