It is with profound sadness that CCUSD announces the passing of our former colleague, CCUSD educator and administrator Mina Shiratori, due to cancer. Ms. Shiratori was a beloved teacher, assistant principal, Dual Language Coordinator, and principal at El Marino Language School.
As Dual Language Coordinator, she was instrumental in expanding the CCUSD dual language program to Culver City Middle School and to La Ballona Elementary School. Ms. Shiratori served as principal at El Marino from 2016 to 2022. Under her leadership, El Marino was named a California Distinguished School.
Over the years, Ms. Shiratori has been described as an “amazing and inspiring leader;” “very proactive, always thinking ahead to ensure that her staff, students, and families are well supported;” and “dedicated to reshaping our schools to become places where we pioneer equitable and inclusive practices.”
Ms. Shiratori left CCUSD in 2022 to lead an emerging dual language school in Torrance Unified School District, a role she held until her passing.
Counselors will be available to support CCUSD staff and students at all school sites.
The family plans to hold a celebration of life and memorial fund in her honor. Details are forthcoming.
