Speaking of surfing, “from golden to gray” pretty much describes the Surfers Unlimited, Culver City High School Class of ’63 alums who formed their own off-campus surfing club back in their high school days. Founding members Monte Hipple, Joe Palermo, Rick Dassance and Mark Leskovar met in Malibu recently for a first-time reunion in almost 50 years, coming from Ventura, Washington DC and Huntington Beach (some don’t ever get far
from the sand) to relive old times. Their photo was in the Spring 2012 issue of The
Centaur News, official newsletter of the CCHS Alumni Association. It’s a fun read,
and if you’d like to subscribe, go to www.cchsa.org.

Local Greg Potik has added a completely new feature at his Robek’s Juice location at
National & Barrington: “Pop’s Hot Dogs” – but not your average hot dog, by any means!
No preservatives, nitrates or fillers, and you can get all natural beef (no pork), turkey
or veggie dogs with mouth-watering toppings that include carmelized onions, cheeses,
avocado, custom pico de gallo and chipotle sauce, fresh cilantro, chili (beef or veggie
from Tub’s Fine Chili) and lots more. Their motto is “We take the L.A. out of our
dogs” (you’ll have to ask them what that means). Visit them at www.popshotdogs.com.

The Friends of the Culver City Youth Health Center will be presenting local artist
Francia Turner Fate in exhibition with pieces from her award-winning children’s books and “Journeys Through America,” a celebration of our country as seen through the window of a moving train. She’ll also be showing her art glass jewelry, one-of-a-kind pieces.
A long-time supporter of the Center, Francia has donated a piece of her fine art to their
annual fundraisers since 2002. Come admire the exhibit and enjoy tea and culinary delights – and for heaven’s sake buy something this coming Sunday, July 8 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
at 5502 Sawtelle Blvd. (Francia will donate 25% of her sales that day to the Friends.) Questions? Call Andy at (310)837-5012 or Diana at (310) 839-0862.

Are you a movie nut? Or do you have family or friends in town who are? They’ll
love the popular Twilight Tour of historic Sony Pictures Studios, now up and

what’s shooting – right before your eyes! Admission for the tour is $35 per person
(children 12 and older, please). Daily tours (also $35.00) run Monday through Friday. Reservations are recommended. Please call 310.244.TOUR (8687) or online at
