VOX Femina, the city’s premier women’s choir, will present a free community concert on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center from 3 to 4 pm. The performance commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States through a wide-ranging musical program.
I, Too, Sing America takes a moving musical journey through the distinct voices that shape our nation. From Native American poetry and Appalachian folk song to musical traditions from today’s diverse communities, the program embodies the vibrant tapestry of American identity.
Musical selections will include familiar songs such as “Shenandoah,” known for its themes of longing and its association with westward expansion of the U.S.; the hymn “How Can I Keep From Singing?,” popularized by Pete Seeger in the 1960’s folk revival; and a medley of Bill Wither’s “Lean On Me” and the Civil Rights anthem “We Shall Overcome.” VOX will also perform “America the Beautiful” in a new arrangement by L.A.-based composer Shawn Kirchner.
This concert invites the audience to engage thoughtfully with the nation’s history and dream boldly of our collective future.
“VOX is excited to be back at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center for this significant milestone. Performing in such an inspiring space in Culver City, which has been VOX’s home for almost 30 years, is very meaningful to us,” says VOX Femina Executive Director Rebecca Wink. “The music in this concert features a wide spectrum of voices and styles, just like our country. At a time when many aspects of the country feel divisive, we hope that this music provides a way for people to connect.”
The concert will run for approximately one hour with no intermission. Tickets are free but audience members are encouraged to RSVP: www.voxfemina.org/current-season
This performance is made possible in part by the City of Culver City and its Cultural Affairs Commission, with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment and Culver City Arts Foundation.
