Celebrate the Anniversary of Culver City Airport – May 9

Did you know that the Sunkist Park neighborhood was an airport, owned by Margaret Perry, in the 1930s? Come celebrate  the 96th anniversary of the opening of the Culver City Airport ( and Mother’s Day weekend) with artist Deborah Aschheim at El Marino Park on Saturday, May 9, 2026, 2 to 4 pm.

Through a competitive process, Aschheim was selected to create an original Culver City: Colorful Communities (CC:CC) poster for the neighborhood of Sunkist Park. The Cultural Affairs Division and the artist are delighted to offer free, hands-on art activities at El Marino Park’s picnic table area.

As a special guest, Daniela Ossemer Guimarães, a member of the Ninety-Nines Los Angeles Chapter, will be attending our May 9 celebration. Fun fact: Amelia Earhart and other early women pilots founded The Ninety Nines, which is an international organization of licensed women pilots from 44 countries. Virtually all women of achievement in aviation have been or are members of The Ninety-Nines!
