On Feb. 17, 2026, IKEA U.S. announced a number of new stores to be opened this year, including an IKEA in Culver City. While offered in their promotional material as being located in Los Angeles, the new store will be in the historic Helms complex in the Arts District.
One of four new stores in the western United States, including Chicago, Tulsa, Fort Collins, it brings the current total number to 10 new stores slated to open in 2026.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Culver City location will feature a food court.
The bakery shut down in 1969 because the founder did not want his company to unionize. The Marks family real estate firm bought the property in 1972 and turned it into a center for home furnishings and antiques. After the loss of HD Buttercup, a high-end furniture store, in May of 2025, the Helms Design District is due for some refurbishing.
According to IKEA U.S. the company reported $5.3 billion in total sales, including $1.9 billion in e-commerce in 2025. The company welcomed nearly 61 million visitors to its stores and over 457 million visitors online.
“IKEA is committed to strengthen its role as a partner in social and environmental impact both nationally and in the local communities. Some key achievements that the company has focused on include continued progress toward IKEA climate goals, with zero-emission delivery growing to 49% year-over-year, a partnership with Too Good To Go, saving an estimated 42,600 meals from going to waste and engaging more than 33,000 people. IKEA also achieved a 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, and generated $200,000 for The Trevor Project and Rainbow Railroad through Pride activations and product-linked initiatives.”
While many in Culver City could flip a coin on using the Burbank or Carson IKEA locations – equidistant, really – it won’t be too long until we get our own IKEA store.
