On Sunday, February 1st, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., students from the AVPA Visual Art Program at Culver City High School will present a public Cohort Zine Showcase at Village Well Books & Coffee. The event will feature original, student-made zines created through a new inter-grade collaborative art initiative.
This year, AVPA Visual Art introduced cohort groups that bring students together across grade levels to encourage mentorship, connection, and creative collaboration. Each mixed-grade cohort worked collectively to design and produce handmade zines centered around themes such as identity, home, community, and personal journeys.
While every student contributed their own artistic voice, each zine reflects a shared theme and collective storytelling process.
Zines have a long history as an independent, grassroots form of publishing, often used to share ideas, beliefs, and personal stories outside traditional systems. AVPA Art students embraced that legacy by using collage, illustration, painting, writing, and mixed media to explore what matters to them and to amplify diverse perspectives in a format that is accessible and personal.
At the heart of this project is community, building relationships across grade levels, celebrating individuality, and using art as a way to connect with others. The Village Well showcase invites the Culver City community to engage with young artists and experience how student voices can come together in creative and meaningful ways.
