“The program defines households [in need of help as those] who are experiencing a loss of employment, a natural disaster…unexpected events; these are for people who are already housed, to keep them housed.”
At the Oct. 27, 2025 Culver City Council meeting, Tevis Barnes, Culver City’s Housing and Human Services Director spoke to the council. She thanked the Housing and Homelessness subcommittee members, Council members Yasmine Imani McMorrin and Bubba Fish, for meeting with her to discuss the $257,108 the city has received from the County of Los Angeles.
“They recommended 20% of the funds go for legal services to Bet Tzedik, 40% for rental assistance, $51,000 for emergency rental and flexible financial assistance. An additional 40% can be used at the discretion of the council. The County has informed us we cannot use funds for the housing trust fund; it can only go directly to assistance.”
Mayor Dan O’Brien offered that the rental assistance program might be the best place to put the remaining funds; Barnes agreed, saying that it was always in need of support.
The discussion concluded with the direction that remaining funds go to the rental assistance program.
