Dear Editor,
Several months ago, while awaiting AT&T’s rollout of high-speed internet for longstanding customers in Culver City, I considered switching to TING’s fiber internet service. Although AT&T’s speed of 6–9 Mbps was slow, it remained sufficient for my needs. Like many seniors, I do not require the 1,000 Mbps service that TING offers at $89 per month. During my research, I discovered that TING also provides a more affordable 150 Mbps plan for $35 per month; however, this option is not available in Culver City.
Through various inquiries, I learned there is no technical barrier preventing TING from offering the $35 plan in our area. I subsequently contacted our City Manager and other officials, requesting that they advocate for the introduction of this lower-cost service. TING’s response to the city’s request was dismissive.
I also asked whether the inclusion of the $35 plan was discussed during the original negotiations between Culver City and TING. There is no indication that this matter was raised by city negotiators at that time.
It is always reassuring to know that our local government is attentive to the needs and interests of its residents.
