“There is a lot of anxiety in the community, a lot of anxiety right now.” Culver City’s Mobile Crisis Team, led by Dr. Dan Richardson, is addressing the effects of the wildfire disasters here; handing out masks and personal protective equipment, assisting with transport for people in distress, and keeping an ear open.
While transportation is not a part of their regular duties, Richardson noted that he was able to make an exception because of the crisis. “In this one case, the person was elderly, it was dark, they were not able to find their way to the train, and they went to the Fire Station to ask for help. The Fire Department turned to us.” The team was able to assist in getting them back to Pasadena. “There is a lot of [people] just feeling overwhelmed, and when vulnerable people – people who were already vulnerable before the onset of this particular crisis – get to that stage, it’s more challenging.”
Like 911, the MCT is a resource that can be accessed, but gauging the level of need is essential. You can reach the MCT to request a field response or for a consultation, by calling their direct line, (310) 253-5770.
