According to a staff report from Metro, Culver City’s removal of the Class Four bikeway, bus only lanes, and bus boarding islands impacts the funding agreement between Metro and the city, and that a partial refund of the grant used to create the project is now due.
The October 2024 meeting of Metro posted notes that “The executed funding agreement between Metro and the City of Culver City contains a provision which states that facilities which cease to be used for the original purpose in the scope of work must be returned to Metro.”
The amount of $434,969.47 is now classified as “deobligated” and must be refunded by the city to the Metro Transit Authority.
The Metro report also states “The removal of project elements impacts the safety of vulnerable road users and affects the ranking that was used in project evaluations.”
The current state of traffic along the reconfigured corridor has two lanes of traffic open at Culver and Duquesne, as pictured above, creates more crowding at the intersection that it was predicted to remediate.
