Human error is inevitable; deadly consequences are not. We must design our roads so that mistakes are not fatal.
Local residents have had enough of deadly street design. A vigil is scheduled to recognize the most recent pedestrian death at National Blvd. & Wesley St, across from Turning Point school, followed by a march to Culver City Hall council meeting to demand Safe Streets.
It’s been more than two years since a pedestrian was killed in the sidewalk in Fox Hills at Green Valley Circle & Doverwood. No significant safety improvements have been made despite being a busy crossing to Fox Hills Park. Pedestrians have died because existing street designs do not implement proven safety measures and instead encourage high speed driving

Culver City has not responded to deadly road conditions with improvements – even years after deadly conditions are apparent. The city actually began removing pedestrian protections several weeks ago at multiple intersections downtown. The time to improve streets is now.
National Blvd & Wesley is used by hundreds of kids and families as routes to school, markets & parks. It intersects with the busy Expo Line Bike Path.
There have been multiple fatalities here dating back at least 18 years, and Culver City has done nothing substantial to improve safety. In 2006 a teacher was struck and killed in front of her students.
Three weeks before the pedestrian was killed on Sept 30, 2024 at National & Wesley, a cyclist was struck by a driver in a hit & run. On October 10, 2024 just one day after CCPD announced that they were conducting enforcement on this exact stretch of National, there was a car crash which totaled at least one of the vehicles involved.
This is a residential neighborhood near a school, an office cluster, and our City’s primary transit hub. It cannot be viewed as a highway for commuters. Sidewalks on National Blvd. near Wesley are too narrow and full of obstructions that force pedestrians into the street. Definitely not ADA compliant.
Don’t wait for the next tragedy; speak out now.
