With the funds approved by the community in March for Measure E, much needed facility repairs have been the focus at site-based meetings at every campus the last two weeks. Roofing is on the calendar for October; getting loud now, so as to stay dry later, work will begin next week while classes are in session.
Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas offered “All four of the architectural firms that we are working with were in attendance [at the campus meetings] to hear the hopes, concerns and dreams for the next generation of campuses, directly from each school community. Within the next few weeks, individual architects will be assigned to each school to hold more detailed input and design sessions.”
The Districtwide Roof Replacement project will begin next week, on Oct, 14, 2024. These projects will take place simultaneously at five school sites; CCMS, El Marino, El Rincon, Farragut and La Ballona. Funded by Measure E monies, the work will include removing existing old roofs, and replacing them. The new roofing comes with a 30-year warranty, so that the expense is protected.
The communication from the district notes that “This work will take place while classes are in session to ensure timely completion before the rainy season. We will do our very best to minimize disruption to our community; but please note the construction may cause additional traffic, work personnel and noise around the surrounding neighborhoods.”
Dr. Lucas noted,” Our goal is to enhance our facilities for the benefit of our students, staff and community. We expect this particular project to go through December 2024. We will keep the community informed of updates.”
