El Marino Language School has suffered two incidents of vandalism over the last month, but suspects have been arrested and preventative measures are being addressed by the district.
A statement from Culver City Unified School Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas noted “The suspects – residents of Los Angeles and not CCUSD students – tagged some of the walls with some racial and homophobic slurs. Using video footage from our security system, CCUSD Security and CCPD were able to identify the suspects…Due to the summer season, no students were exposed to this incident.”
A report from the CulverCity Police Department Police “located a broken classroom window and graffiti in several areas of the campus, which included hate speech.”
The CCPD stated “On Monday, July 29, 2024, both suspects were arrested and released to their parents. Neither suspect is a student within the Culver City Unified School District.”
Dr. Lucas noted that “Since last spring, the District has planned to install more advanced camera technology for our perimeter… These cameras, which include motion-sensing alerts, are scheduled to be installed the week of July 29.”
The CCPD have added on additional patrols of the area for added peace of mind.
