It’s been a topic of discussion at many meeting through the year, but success is in sight; at the July 9, 2024, Culver City Unified School Board meeting: an agreement between CCUSD and the City of Culver City, was unanimously approved. The back and forth of who would be responsible for funding 18 crossing guards at 16 key intersections throughout the city has been resolved, with the city picking up the check.
A statement from the school district offers “CCUSD is extremely grateful to the City of Culver City for partnering with us on this critical program, which will greatly enhance the safety of students and families walking and biking to and from all school sites.”
The program will begin in August 2024, and continue through the end of the school year in June 2025. The 16 designated intersections are:

Braddock Dr. & Irving Pl.
Braddock Dr. & Duquesne Ave.

Sawtelle Blvd. & Rudman Dr.
Overland Ave. & Sawtelle Blvd.
Farragut Dr. & Coombs Ave.
Matteson Ave. & College Ave.
Washington Blvd. & Elenda Ave.
Elenda St. & Garfield Ave.
Elenda St. & Franklin Ave.
Overland Ave. & Virginia Ave. (new location)
The Agreement for Crossing Guard Services includes the right to terminate by either party with a 60 day notice. Crossing Guard services will be funded by the City of Culver City and managed by the Culver City Unified School District’s Department of Safety and Security.
