Antioch University’s 10-year lease at the campus’s current location at 400 Corporate Pointe in Culver City was up this year. After extensive discussions with campus stakeholders—faculty, staff, students—and the University’s intense exploration of other possible locations in the highly competitive Los Angeles market, we ended up with two very good options, one of which was to “stay put” option under a new lease and the other from a nearby location.
After reviewing these two options carefully, including some stakeholder tours of both facilities, the Chancellor recommended to the Antioch Board that we accept the stay-put option, and at the recent June Board meeting, Chancellor Groves signed a Letter of Intent for an 11-year lease extension but with new and very beneficial terms.
The new lease will include the current building’s 1st and 2nd floors as well as all of the courtyard offices, which will be repurposed for more student-facing space. The tenant improvement allowance will afford us the ability to renovate and refresh every inch of our Los Angeles campus, with more student breakout space, instructional space, and shareable office configurations that align with how our community uses the campus. Knowing that we will continue to be open and providing instruction through this upcoming renovation process, our project team is designing a phased approach to maintain an adequate number of classrooms and offices throughout.
Antioch will continue to occupy the 4th floor throughout the renovation process. Once we have a schedule determined, Provost Mark Hower will share that information and hold periodic update meetings to ensure that the community stays informed.
