The 2024 Senior of the Year Award was presented to David Voncannon as a part of the awards and presentations offered at the Culver City Council meeting on May 28, 2024. The members of the City Council commended Voncannon for his many outstanding contributions to the community. The local business owner and US Navy veteran also served as a member of the Culver City Planning Commission.
Leaning on a quote from Isaac Newton, Voncanon said “If I have done great things, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of others. I’ve had so much support, I don’t feel that I’ve done all that much.” Voncannon was also profuse in his gratitude towards his wife, Elizabeth. “For those of us who are out [working ] in the community, it requires a great deal of time away from house and home. I couldn’t have done any of it without her.”
Voncannon is a co-founder of the Tellefson Park Neighborhood Association, and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Exchange Club of Culver City and the Culver Palms YMCA. As offered by Council member Albert Vera, Jr. “His impactful service is vast, and we are grateful for his selfless dedication towards serving our community.”
