Walk ‘n Rollers Festival to Celebrate 12 Years with Golden Sneaker Awards

Walk ‘n Rollers, a non-profit organization empowering families to rethink their commutes to school by choosing walking, biking, carpooling and transit, today announced a festival to celebrate its 12-year anniversary.

The free, family-oriented outdoor event starts at 10 A.M. on March 16 on Main Street in downtown Culver City. It will feature activities and exhibitions such as a kids bike skills workshops, helmet giveaways, roller skating demos, group ride to explore West Adams and more. Sponsors include Pocrass & De Los Reyes LLP, Culver City Rotary Foundation, The Wende Museum, Prevelo Bikes and Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA).


Walk ‘n Rollers will also be awarding Golden Sneaker awards to David McNeill, Executive Officer of the Baldwin Hills Conservancy and Deborah Murphy, Founder of Los Angeles Walks and Chair of the Los Angeles Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Each year the Golden Sneaker Award honors Southern California mobility champions. Previous recipients include former Culver City Mayor, Meghan Sahli-Wells, Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and Aaron Paley, CicLAvia founder and current president of Community Arts Resources (CARS)

Registration for the Walk More Bike More Festival + Fundraiser is free, although donations are appreciated to support Walk ‘n Rollers Adopt-a-Bike program. With a goal of $20,000, this year’s Festival promises to be bigger than ever! Guests will be able to participate in:

· Bike skills course for children to learn about safety with start-stop exercises, road vision and awareness, and bike handling and control

· Free bike helmet distribution

· Roller skating demos by the L.A. Skate Hunnies

· A Bike Swap area featuring used bikes, vintage bikes and bike accessories for sale

· Family group ride of West Adams

· Free Bicycle Registration by Culver City Police Department

· Public Art space by the Wende Museum

· Book Sale with Village Well’s Book Mobile
